PLYMOUTH GRANTS PROGRAM

We believe part of the mission of the church is enacting love in our community. Each year, Plymouth members pledge their time, talents and treasure to support that effort. Through their commitments, we are able to provide the Plymouth Grants Program to support partner organizations working locally in our community, and globally around the world.

to community-driven

non-profits

As a congregation of the United Church of Christ, we seek to fund projects and agencies that are compatible with values we deeply cherish.

Four covenants distinguish our Christian faith: 1) as an open and affirming (ONA) congregation we extend intentional welcome and affirmation to our LGBTQ+ members, friends and their allies; 2) as a just peace church, we foster peace and diminish violence by working for justice and human rights for the whole human family; 3) as a global mission church, we seek to be "intensely local, intentionally global" in supporting our mission partners; and 4) as an earthwise congregation, we are committed to being good environmental stewards of God's creation for generations to come.

We invite applicants to submit projects and programs that might prove difficult to fund elsewhere. We consider applications from organizations/agencies that have received previous grants as well as from first-time applicants. There are two types of grants that you may apply for:

Benevolence Grants

The Benevolence Committee provides funding of up to $2,000 for programs, equipment, or other items needed to implement your agency’s mission. Given the small dollar value of these grants, preference will be given to requests for specific expenditures rather than support for general operations.

Capacity Building Grant

The church also offers an annual Capacity Building Grant. This is a one-time grant of $20,000 which should permanently impact and improve the agency’s ability to carry on its mission while supporting Plymouth Church’s four basic covenants as stated above. One of these types of grants will be allocated per grant cycle. Please remember if you have been granted a Capacity Building Grant previously, you are not eligible to apply again.

Please note: You may apply for both types of grants in the same grant cycle. However, if you are awarded the Capacity Building grant, you will not be eligible to receive a benevolence grant in the same grant cycle.

In general, our grant cycle begins the first of November with the solicitation of grant applications from agencies and organizations. Applications are due in very early January and distributed to committee members for review. Committee members gather in February for discussion and allocation of funds with notification to applicants by early March. Funds are disbursed throughout the remainder of the calendar year.
